August event updates

We've still got some summer left! The Tri Minnesota Series and Glacial Lakes Running Series are going strong, and there are plenty of events throughout the area to run, bike, or swim your way to fun. See you at the races!

Tri Minnesota Series

The Tri Minnesota Series is winding up, with only two events remaining. The overall female point leader for the series is Jody Mullet from Chaska and the male overall point leader is Peter Manstrom from Bismarck. The YoungLife Triathlon in Detroit Lakes is the next event on the schedule and still has opening as does the Lakes Country Triathlon in Baxter. There is more information below on each of these races. The YoungLife Triathlon is also a bonus points race in the series.

Glacial Lakes Running Series

The Glacial Lakes Running Series has completed its eighth event. The Run Around Raymond is the next series event, which will be held on August 24. The leaders of the series as of August 11 are Tracy Sik from Willmar and Ben Burgett from Spicer.

YoungLife Triathlon

August 16-17
Detroit Lakes, MN

Registration closes at 11:59 on Wednesday, August 14! Friday evening consists of a 5K fun run, FREE Kiddie Fun Run & FREE Family Fun Night with inflatable games. Saturday is the Olympic & Sprint Course Triathlon. The race begins and ends at the city of Detroit Lakes pavilion, on the shores of Detroit Lake. The Long Course is Olympic length, and consists of a 1.5k swim in Detroit Lake, a 40k bike ride through the beautiful Minnesota lakes country, and a 10k run out to Dunton Locks Park and back via the scenic Pelican River trail. The Sprint Course will include a 500 meter swim, a 20k bike ride and a 5k run on parts of the same course as the Olympic course. This is a great introductory course for those new to the sport. Lakes Country Triathlon

August 25
Baxter, MN

There are still some openings left for the Lakes Country Triathlon. A half-mile swim on a small, calm lake with a perfect, gradual transition area. The 17 mile bike and 3.9 mile run is through the beautiful Lakes area and quiet neighborhoods. Visit the event website for registration information.

Graniteman Half Marathon

September 7
St. Cloud, MN

Slip on your running shoes and come to downtown Saint Cloud for the Graniteman 1/2 Marathon, 5k and 10k! This year will be the unveiling of a brand new USATF certified run course, and as if running along the scenic Mississippi River doesn't sound fun enough, you will be entertained by MUSIC AT EVERY MILE! Join everyone for the start and finish at the newly renovated Rivers Edge Convention Center for the Endurunce Shop's Finish Line Expo. The post-race concert will feature Jesse Ray from the Killer Hay Seeds who will be there to celebrate with you as you dash across the finish line. Husky Spirit Run

September 28
St. Cloud, MN

Don't miss the early bird fee! Register early for the SCSU Husky Spirit 5k or 1k junior run. The race will start and finish at the SCSU Atwood Mall. This year's out and back course will wind down the Mississippi Beaver Island Trail. All pre-registered participants will receive a t-shirt, refreshments and a chance for door prizes. Awards to the overall male and female finishers. Also, awards to the top three finishers in each age group.

Sik and Strand Win 2016 Glacial Lakes Series!

Tracy Sik of Willmar repeated as champion and Chris Strand of Willmar won his first series championship.
