Lakes Country Tri Under New Management

Pickle Events has passed the ownership and management of the Lakes Country Triathlon onto the Kiwanis Club of Baxter as of January 29, 2010. This is a move intended to breathe new life and energy into the event which in seven years under the direction of Pickle Events has grown from a small, 50 person event to over 500 participants.

Pickle Events will be available to provide advice for the new management team when they would like and will continue to time the race. The city of Baxter will also continue to provide key support in the success of the event.

Although it is tough to give up the management of an event we worked so hard to develop and build, because of how busy we have become "timing" races across the Midwest, we did not feel we could continue to put in the time necessary to maintain the high standards and attention to detail we tried to put into this event. The event, participants, sponsors and the city of Baxter deserves someone that can give 100% of their efforts to make the event as good as possible and we worried we may not have been able to maintain that level in the future.

The opportunity to have an organization such as the Kiwanis Club take the event over was one that we felt was the best situation for everyone. With their history of success building the Kiwanis Kids Triathlon, members in the triathlon community and their obvious involvement in the Baxter area community we feel very fortunate and comfortable with the continued success of the event. We also feel the Kiwanis Club will be able to take the event to another level that will showcase the city to an even larger population.

Personally I want to thank the city of Baxter for being tremendous hosts of the event and great people to work with over the years. Specifically Roy Raun, the entire Parks Department and Trevor Walter, Public Works Director. I found it refreshing to work with city staff that embraces the value that such an event, when done well, can bring to a community. They are a very dedicated group that take great pride in their work and their community and are not afraid to think-outside-the-box to find solutions for the betterment of their city.

I also want to thank the sponsors that were willing help build this event from the start. The Lions Club of Baxter, Easy Rider, Super One and more recently The Lodge. Each of them played a key role in the development of the event.

Finally, thank you to all the participants that showed up year after year and made it a pleasure to put on an event for you! I enjoyed seeing all the familiar faces and all the new faces each year. The great thing about this transaction is that I will still be able to be a part of the event and see everyone at future events. I encourage you all to give the new management staff as much encouragement and support as you have given me all these years.

Once again, thank you all for being a part of the past success of this event. I am looking forward to seeing great things from Lakes Country Triathlon in the future.
